The circus fire claimed the lives of 168+ people - these are the names of the victims known to have perished as a result of injuries sustained on July 6, 1944. Each of these names is embossed on the bronze memorial erected on the site of the center ring of the circus.

Mrs. Fifield, of Newport, VT, was reported missing and was believed to be an amnesia victim. She was visiting relatives in Wethersfield, CT, and attended the circus with her 16 year old son who says his mother was ahead of him when he left the burning tent. Mrs. Fifield's husband has visited the four hospitals and has viewed the unidentified dead and says that his wife is not among them.

Mrs. Fifield's body was never identified.

aka Rusty (because of her red hair). Went to the circus with her Aunt and two cousins who were visiting from NY. Roslyn's mother was going to go, but she was ill so Rosyln went in her place. Roslyn helped her party escape the burning tent, and went back in to help others. She suffered burns on her feet and complete dehydration, and succumbed to kidney failure after 10 days in the hospital. CFR

Roslyn Kruh, 22 year old white female, came to an untimely death at 11:15 pm on July 16, 1944 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford as a result of 1st and 2nd degree burns of the face, breasts, back, arms and legs sustained when the tent ignited at the circus. Rosyln was admitted to St. Francis Hospital at 3:30 on July 6th, and in spite of supportive treatment ran a down-hill course and expired on July 16. Body delivered to Weinstein for burial.COR

Their son Gerald LeVasseur, 5, who attended the circus with his mother, was badly burned and is said to be in serious condition at Municipal Hospital. Marion and Gerald attended the circus with Mrs. James Eustice, Mrs. M. E. Linxweiller and the latter's daughter, Mary Ann.

Born 9/3/1911 in Providence, RI. Marion was a registered nurse, a member of St. Joseph's Church and the Connecticut Nurses Association.

Edwin Woodward was Dean of the College of Agriculture, University of Connecticut, and chairman of the Agriculture Committee of the Connecticut Post-war Planning Board.
