Doris Marie Schinkel, age 21
Miss Doris Marie Schinkel, age 21, of 68 Plymouth Lane, Manchester, was born July 15, 1922 in Albany, NY, daughter of Brooklyn natives Helen (Royce) and Herbert J. Schinkel. Doris was found injured at the circus grounds after the fire on July 6 and was immediately hospitalized. Despite supportive treatment, Doris, a known diabetic, passed away after 2am on July 9 at Hartford Hospital from 2nd and 3rd degree burns, pulmonary edema, tracheitis and diabetes mellitus. Miss Schinkel was buried at Brookside Cemetery in Englewood, NJ. She leaves her parents and her sister, Miss Marion Louise Schinkel, all of Manchester.
The estate of Doris Schinkel was awarded $13,572 by the arbitration board. Doris had just graduated in May from Boston University with a BS degree in Practical Arts. She attended the circus with a neighbor’s daughter, Miss Ellen Edson, who was also a victim of the fire.
