Sylvia (Lagary) Goldstein, age 27
Mrs. Sylvia (Lagary) Goldstein of 23 Andover Street, Hartford, was born September 10, 1916 in Hartford, daughter of Russian-born Rebecca "Beckie" (Weinstein) and Greek-born George Lagary. Mrs. Goldstein and her daughter Adrienne, 3, were found dead at the circus grounds after the fire on July 6 and were buried at the Sharai Torah Federation Cemetery in Hartford after services at the Hartford Memorial Chapel. Sylvia leaves her husband, former dentist Captain Leonard N. Goldstein, 29, currently serving with the U.S. Army overseas; her parents, of Hartford; her maternal grandparents, Lena and Barney Weinstein of Hartford; and her brother, Morris Lagary, 24, serving in the Philippines with the U.S. Army.
Body #2168 was identified at the State Armory as Sylvia Goldstein by her uncle, Sgt. Samuel Weinstein of the Hartford Police Department on July 6. Sylvia's estate was awarded $10,250 by the arbitration board. Her brother, Morris, would also suffer a wrongful death in 1978 when he was found bound, gagged and suffocated in a locked bathroom at a business that he co-owned, Sandy's Restaurant, at 17 Asylum Street, Hartford.
