Miss Minnie Hess of 8750 Bay Parkway, Brooklyn, New York was born April 11, 1902 in Brooklyn, daughter of Russian born parents Rebecca "Becky" (Berman) and Barnett Hess. She was found dead at the circus grounds after the fire on July 6 and buried at Beth David Cemetery in Elmont, New York after services at Kasdan Brothers funeral home in Brooklyn on July 9. Miss Hess leaves her mother*, her father Barnett* and his wife Anna, and brothers Samuel Hess, 33 of Brooklyn and Elias** and/or Alex Hess, 44.
Body #1579 was identified at the State Armory as Minnie Hess by a relative on July 6, and her watch was found with the body of Irene North. Minnie worked as a laboratory helper at the New York City Department of Health, 17 years on the job, and her coworkers were deeply saddened by the loss of Miss Hess. At the time of the fire, she was on vacation from her job and was visiting her brother Alexander at his home at 42 Deerfield Ave, Hartford, and was expected to have returned home soon. Her estate was awarded $13,500 by the arbitration board.
