#1565 (unidentified)
Body #1565 was found injured at the circus grounds after the fire on July 6, and taken to Municipal Hospital where she was given supportive treatment until expiration just after 6pm that evening.* Her body was taken to the State Armory and then to the Hartford Hospital morgue where positive identification was never made. #1565 was prepared by the Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home for burial at Northwood Cemetery in Wilson, Connecticut, on July 10.
Descriptive features of #1565 include: white female, 5 to 6 years of age, probably blue eyes; 3'-10" height, weight 40 pounds; head circumference 20 1/2", blond or light brown shoulder length curly hair; wearing brown shoes and flowered dress. Dental examination of #1565 shows all baby teeth present except lower central incisors. No permanent teeth have erupted except lower central incisors.
In 1991, body #1565 was declared to be Miss Eleanor Cook. She was exhumed from Northwood Cemetery and buried at Center Cemetery in Southampton, Massachusetts next to her brother, Edward Cook.

Hartford, Conn., July 6, 1958 - In Memoriam - Detective Lt. Thomas C. Barber kneels by grave of unidentified little girl in Hartford Cemetery today - 14 years after the child and 167 other men, women and children died in fire which swept big top during performance of Ringling Brothers’ circus. A police sergeant at that time, Barber found the tiny body of the 6-year-old girl, which was never identified. Fr record purposes the stone on the grave is inscribed “Miss 1565”.
