Donald R. Abatte, age 5
Donald R. Abatte of 41 Ashford Street, Hartford, was born March 28, 1939 in Hartford, son of Hartford native Mary (Sicuranza) and Italian-born Angelo Abatte. He was found seriously injured at the circus grounds after the fire on July 6 and taken to Municipal Hospital where he was treated for 12 hours before he passed away during the early morning hours of Friday, July 7. Donald was buried at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery in Bloomfield after services at the D'Esopo Funeral Home.
Donald's mother, Mary Abatte, was also a victim of the circus fire. In addition to his father, Donald leaves his sister Gloria, 14; his brother Louis, 12; his paternal grandparents Concetta and Luigi Abatte of Hartford; and his maternal grandfather Angelo Sicuranza of Hartford. The estate of Donald Abatte was awarded $6,500 by the arbitration board.
