Mary D. (Sicuranza) Abatte, age 34
Mrs. Mary D. (Sicuranza) Abatte of 41 Ashford Street, Hartford, was born September 1, 1909 in Hartford, daughter of Italian-born parents Grazia (Fratiano) and Angelo Sicuranza. Mrs. Abatte and her son Donald were found seriously injured at the circus grounds after the fire on July 6 and taken to Municipal Hospital for treatment. Despite the efforts of the medical staff, Mary died Friday night, July 7, at the hospital and was buried at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery in Bloomfield after services at the D'Esopo Funeral Home.
Mary's son Donald also died from the injuries he received in the circus fire. Mrs. Abatte leaves her husband Angelo Abatte, 42; her daughter Gloria, 14; her son Louis, 12; her father Angelo Sicuranzo, 63, of Hartford; her brother Anthony Sicuranza, 28, of Newington; and her sister Miss Lucille Sicuranza, 32, of Hartford. Her estate was awarded $10,250 by the arbitration board.
