Loretta Ruth Dillus, age 7
Miss Loretta Ruth Dillus of 25 Boswell Road, West Hartford, was born August 20, 1936 in Manchester, Connecticut, daughter of Anna (Staskavich) and George P. Dillus. Loretta and her mother were found dead at the circus grounds after the fire on July 6 and were buried at St. Catherine's Cemetery in Broad Brook after services at the home of Loretta's grandmother, Mrs. Anna (Viniskus) Staskavich Ambrose in Windsorville. Loretta leaves her father, her grandmother, and no siblings.
Body #1542 was identified at the State Armory as Loretta Dillus on July 7 by her dentist. Her estate was awarded $7,000 by the arbitration board. Loretta and her mother attended the circus with neighbor Ethel Derby, her son William Jr., and her daughter Carolyn, 6, who was also a victim of the fire. Miss Dillus had recently completed grade 2 at Elmwood Elementary School.
