Viola Ann (Wickham) Locke, age 40
Mrs. Viola Ann (Wickham) Locke of 579 Hills Street, East Hartford, was born February 27, 1904 in East Hartford, daughter of Connecticut natives Ida (Bancroft) and Horace Wickham. She was found dead at the circus grounds with her daughter Elaine, 6, after the fire on July 6 and both were buried at East Cemetery in Manchester after services at Watkins Funeral Home. Mrs. Locke leaves her husband, Frank Locke, 40; her son Lawrence, 14, who attended the circus with the group and was able to escape with his life; and her brother, Herbert Wickham, 43. Viola's neice and nephew, Edith W. Budrick, 9, and Joseph C. Budrick, Jr., 7, were also victims of the fire, and her sister Edith May Budrick was also presumed to have died in the fire, though her body was never identified.
Body #4507 was identified as Viola Locke at the State Armory by her brother Herbert Wickham on July 7, and on the body was found a ring. Her estate was awarded $11,500 by the arbitration board.
